Undergraduate


Dr Thomas Gan completed his undergraduate medical degree in 2004, graduating from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Science (Medicine), Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery.

He spent his clinical years at various hospitals including St Vincent’s Hospital in Darlinghurst and St George Hospital in Kogarah where he received a solid foundation in numerous fields of medicine including orthopaedics and emergency.

In his undergraduate years he chose to travel to country New South Wales, including Orange, Wagga Wagga and Coffs Harbour, where he experienced the delivery of medicine outside the metropolitan setting.

He spent his overseas elective in Edinburgh, Scotland and British Columbia, Canada in order to better understand health care delivery in other countries.

Specialisation


Dr Gan commenced advanced training in the specialty field of Sport & Exercise Medicine in 2009 through the Australasian College of Sports Physicians.

Since 2009 he has consulted in various sports medicine practices in Sydney and Brisbane including Narrabeen Sports Medicine Centre, Sydney Sports Medicine Centre, North Sydney Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Centre, Qsports Medicine and Brisbane Sport and Exercise Medicine Specialists.

Dr Gan is the current club doctor for the Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL club. He is also the current medical director for both the Sydney International and Brisbane International Tennis Tournaments.

Dr Gan is currently engaged in the ALLSTAR stress fracture clinical research study which is looking at the use of low intensity pulsed ultrasound. He has also attended various conferences and courses aimed at improving patient care and has delivered presentations at Sport & Exercise Medicine seminars and conferences.

Dr Gan’s professional interests include lower limb stress fractures, tennis injuries and trigger point dry needling.
