Introduction
MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging and has revolutionised the diagnosis and treatment of sporting injuries. MRI is a non-invasive method of detecting bone, soft tissue (tendon, ligaments, muscles, nerves) and joints in a detailed fashion.
It gives a high image resolution and does not involve ionising radiation. For these reasons, it provides a handy screening modality for complex structures such as the various joints of the body. It is often the preferred scan for many patient populations such as children.
